The Outback

The following post features student writing.

Hello, everyone,

The Outback was quite the change of scenery for everyone. The moment we got out of the Alice Springs airport we met our amazing guide, Chris, who was a huge source of knowledge and everyone’s best friend. He and Daria participated in our nightly meetings and games by the fire. Every morning, we woke up early to go on hikes and explore the Outback. We went in water holes, saw sacred aboriginal land — such as Uluru Rock — and bonded as we immersed ourselves in the culture. One of the most adventurous moments our group had was when four kids (Spencer, Isabel, Ana, and Cole) and our leader Heather ate Witchetty Grubs — a moth larvae and traditional aboriginal food. Waking up to rain in the middle of the third night was without a doubt one of the group’s most thrilling moments. We all look back on it with smiles on our faces. Now, the group heads off to the Whitsunday Islands. Stay tuned!
